  1. DVORK is an .ACC that lets you use the efficent Dvorak keyboard layout.  
  2. Originally written by Alex Stevens, it has been modified by Mike Bales.  
  3. Here's some interesting history about how our typewriters (and computer 
  4. keyboards) came to be. Christopher Latham Sholes invented the first 
  5. practical typewriter. He originally arranged the letters alphabeticaly, 
  6. but found that the type bars jammed even using the two-finger method that 
  7. was then used.  Using a list of the most common letters used in English, 
  8. Shole rearranged the letters to slow the typist down.  So where does that 
  9. leave us today?  Using a layout that was meant for two-finger typing and 
  10. slowing the typist down.  It was never intended to be used for touch 
  11. typing. Enter Dr. Dvorak.  He made a study of not only the common letters,
  12. but also the most common two-letter sequences used in the English 
  13. language.  These are called digraphs, and 137 of them make up 90% of text.
  14. The 11 most common account for 25%, the top 34 make up 50%, and the top 57
  15. account for 75% of all text.   This .ACC also includes Dr. Dvorak's
  16. layouts for people who only have one hand (either left or right) or who 
  17. are missing fingers that make typing difficult.  Using the common keyboard 
  18. the average typist will move his or her fingers between 12 and 20 MILES in 
  19. a 8 hour day.  With the Dvorak layout, that is reduced to about ONE mile.
